Wasted Time

How much of our lives do we waste? How much of our time is wasted by others and not intentionally wasted by us? More and more lately, every day, I seem to find myself thinking about this.

I mean, we don’t have an unlimited amount of time to live these lives of ours. We already waste a great deal of our short little lives watching television or, say, sleeping.

But what about all that other time we waste?

Time wasted sitting at red lights. Time wasted clicking links on the Internets and waiting for the page we requested to display. Time wasted reading that displayed page (not that LOL Cats is wasting time or anything). Time wasted standing in line behind stupid people who have to hold up everyone behind them for some moronic reason or another. Time wasted making small-talk with people you could really care less about making said polite small-talk with. Time wasted on the telephone on-hold listening to crappy muzak. Time wasted listening to uninteresting people talk about other people’s lives (hello Britney and Lindsay and Paris and O.J.!).

If you figure in all of these little wastes of time, they add up - they add up to become one big, fat, gigantic stinking chunk of our lifetimes that we will never again have such an opportunity to waste. You can waste your entire life but you only get to do it once.

Well. That was uplifting.
